This, the first initiative of the new talents promotion platform Video Europe, features young artists with all kinds of points of view using video as backup. A very broad, eclectic and carefully chosen selection of videographic works by artists from across Europe that treat the elementary, evocative and ubiquitous concept of fragility.
This is marathon gymnastics for the eyeballs of lovers of video art and practically a work of reference for anybody interested in the subject. Commissioned by Maite Lorés and Keith Patrick as part of Loop08, the sixty-plus works span almost four hours in three programmes that try to abdicate the dependence on the spoken and written language for the sake of the audiovisual experience.
The screenings take place in one of the most interesting and daring spaces of the city, Espai Ubu. Always adapting to the projects hosted, its pleasant surroundings should provide a guarantee for its place in the future and, for the present, an excuse to submerge yourself in a precious area of Poblenou that has yet to be exploited.
No longer distracted by the sticky, sweet-talking Queen of Pop, let's turn our attention back to the King, and pay homage one last time. Mindless and too late? Hey, the dude's without a brain and remains unburied, so that would almost be appropriate.
It was never going to please everybody - “too activist”, “too commercial”, “too frivolous”, it was mumbled - but, in our humble opinion, the inaugural Pride Barcelona did well, even without the crisis-stricken Matinée Group.

As catalogues go, Daniel Riera’s work with Tamsin Egerton for Hoss Intropia was real fine. But his exhibition in Hoss’ private showroom shows why he’s one of our favourite photographers these days.
