NIGHTLIFE

Més que un púti-club

There seems to be ever more working women on the lower part of Las Ramblas. The onset of hen night season and visiting Italians may be partly to blame, but the zone has become dangerous territory for single men with noble intentions. Where did all these women come from?
It could just be an unintended consequence of the crackdown on the town's púti clubs, that also took down the mythical Bailén 22 club last year after more than a few of its patrons were caught - literally - with their pants down.
Given the nature of Bailén 22's trade, it only seems fitting that it's now being resurrected by the guys who brought the concept of bed-side dining to Barcelona. Yes, the group behind Plaça Reial's Club 13 have given the place a good lick of paint, some racy wallpapers, and will open it for business again later this week as Lotus Theatre.
The dancing poles and an intriguing ceiling-mounted swing on rails remain, but otherwise it's distinctly lush lounge that rules. The girls are gone, too, though, so to get lucky you may now have to do more than just pile on the drinks.
