I heart (insert city here)

As with members of the opposite sex, we all fall in love with cities for different, and sometimes inexplicable reasons. UJ’s pick of the travel guides should see you through the most turbulent of relationships.

Love Travel Guides

Traveller Type: Bohemian Romantic
What they say: “Because falling in love with a city is just as exciting as falling in love with a person.”
USP: Hand illustrated, silk bound and totally personal, these little gems are beautiful enough to give as a gift or lead you by the hand around some of India’s most exciting cities.
Best for: Indian Summers.

Hedonist’s Guide

Traveller Type: The Sensualist
What they say: “We do not mindlessly seek out the most expensive; instead, we search high and low for the absolute/very best a city has to offer.”
USP: Divided into easy to access sections, information is sprinkled with sexy photography over glossy pages outlining the highlights of some of the most happening cities.
Best for: Decadent City Breaks

Louis Vuitton Travel Notebooks

Traveller Type: The fashionista
What they say: “The travel notebook invites you to discover the world’s greatest cities though beautifully illustrated pages.”
USP: More of an aide de memoire than an actual guide, these watercolour illustrated booklets come with tear out postcards and a little gold pencil to help record your holiday memories. For specific info and addresses, LV also do a definitive European City Guide box set.
Best for: Creative Endeavours.

Nota Bene Reviews

Traveller Type: The Exec
What they say: “The world’s most demanding travel publication and tailored services”
USP: Subscription service providing detailed insider knowledge, an up to date members section, as well as fortnightly news and a bespoke travel concierge service.
Best for: Members Only

Feedback

Traveller Type: The Insider
What they say: Shhhh it’s a secret
USP: Totally exclusive and hard to get hold of, rumour has it these travel folios, compiled from colleagues and friends of parent company Pentagram, are the ultimate in insider knowledge. Beg, borrow, or steal!
Best for: We’d need to know what’s inside to tell you.

ALSO IN TRAVEL

  • It's a Flat World

Every region has its share of entrepreneurs. Silicon Valley has its high tech wizards, Milan its couturiers, and Nigeria its money transfer-challenged businessmen. Here, meanwhile, there's been no shortage of holiday flat renters.

  • Win a Luxury Boutique Hotel Stay

Win a two night Barcelona & Discovery package at this luxury boutique hotel. One of our favourite Barcelona hotels, and most certainly our favourite rooftop pool.

  • Disturb, Bitte

For all the high-end design, the sexual tension is evident from the moment you enter the lobby. Provided along with your room are an array of signs to hang off your door knob, including "Disturb, please." Everyone’s game here, except for the staff. Shame.

  • All Aboard

Gran Clase used to be neither gran or with clase. Times change, though, and today Renfe is putting its new Talgo Trenhotel into service with larger beds, flat screens, and more luggage space as some of the novelties.

  • For Richer, For Poorer

There's no denying it: Being married makes perfect financial sense - 1x2 is simply cheaper than 2x1. So put a ring on it, but do it cheaply. Say, by doing away with the party and moving the ceremony directly into the honeymoon.
