Kiddie Kennel

In a few days, the holiday season kicks off for real. Mayhem. Jammed roads. Airports from Hell. And worse, other people's kids.

The problem of other people's screaming sprogs isn't exactly a problem unknown to the industry - Danish tour operator Star Tour tried to launch longhaul flights with kid-free sections, even Disney World banned children from one of its restaurants earlier this year - but few have cracked it. Our favourite solution remains Berlin's Kinderinsel that launched a few years back as the first ever kids only hotel.

Here, for a mere EUR 79 a night, parents can check their kids in, leave them in the hands of pros (all background checked), and be sure that they'll be better entertained than watching soaps with a sitter. Pyjama parties, fancy dress, and museum visits are all the norm.

A cross between a summer camp and a kennel it may be, but they get to play and the parents get to go away.
Our only question is, what's EUR 79 x 365?

  • It's a Flat World

Every region has its share of entrepreneurs. Silicon Valley has its high tech wizards, Milan its couturiers, and Nigeria its money transfer-challenged businessmen. Here, meanwhile, there's been no shortage of holiday flat renters.

  • Win a Luxury Boutique Hotel Stay

Win a two night Barcelona & Discovery package at this luxury boutique hotel. One of our favourite Barcelona hotels, and most certainly our favourite rooftop pool.

  • Disturb, Bitte

For all the high-end design, the sexual tension is evident from the moment you enter the lobby. Provided along with your room are an array of signs to hang off your door knob, including "Disturb, please." Everyone’s game here, except for the staff. Shame.

  • All Aboard

Gran Clase used to be neither gran or with clase. Times change, though, and today Renfe is putting its new Talgo Trenhotel into service with larger beds, flat screens, and more luggage space as some of the novelties.

  • For Richer, For Poorer

There's no denying it: Being married makes perfect financial sense - 1x2 is simply cheaper than 2x1. So put a ring on it, but do it cheaply. Say, by doing away with the party and moving the ceremony directly into the honeymoon.
