On a Stick

It was about more than the rain, tonguelashers, childishness, and the spectacle of an MTV show.  The 50th anniversary concert of Chupa Chups, the Catalan emblem that's now under the wings of the Dutch-Italian Perfetti Van Melle, filled the terrace of the Palau Sant Jordi this past Friday night.

The trucks rolled in some of the movers and shakers that have been dominating the Billboard charts as of late: the frantic screaming from Angy; the thirtysomething Canadian Daniel Powter (on the verge of changing the lyrics of his hit "Bad Night" due to the rainstorm); the controversial Katy Perry of I Kissed A Girl fame - nearly getting a mouthful of Italian presenter Carolina Di Domenico before being presented with a garlic mouthspray; the Finnish The Rasmus, sporting a look that evokes images of the Elm Street movies; and the former-footballers Pignoise, a bit too cash for an international television broadcast.

The only one missing was Dalí, responsible for the logo that's splashed across the bulb of the lollipops, as well as the sides of the umbrellas - indispensable on this tasty night, even if it turned out to be a misty one.

  • Uptown Downtown

I remember when the bars in El Gòtico were for guiris, uptown for the pijos, Port Olímpic for the garullos, Raval for the adventurous, Gayxample for the gays, and everybody else nibbling and sampling as they saw fit.

  • Going Solo

If you've been to Bailén 22 after it reopened as Lotus, then you'll understand why I got a bit excited when learning that women, of the paying kind, would be welcomed at another former puticlub.

  • That's All Folks

Powerful imagery in HD: risk, vertigo, bloody noses, fully-branded choppers and snow, snow and more snow. It's a curious thing, sharing the snowboarding adventure with these kids on and off the big screen.

  • Make-over

Trying out a "new" bar in Barcelona is rather like going on a date with Ana Obregón: you can be sure that you'll have seen the place before and that it'll since have had a nip and tuck or two. You just won't know whether the change has been for the better or worse.

  • Photos: Globo

Fucked From Above 1985 - Milan-based Venetian Giulia Centofante - not only designed The Bloody Beetroots' t-shirts and those of her own label, Cut (apart from being über-hot).
