Bingo!

Times are hard in bingo - the number of halls in Barcelona is down to a mere 30 at last count. It seems that smoking's killed off most of the regulars, the smoking ban's driven away the rest, and new customers are apparently difficult to attract.

No wonder: It's stressful. Forget the innocent fun of bingo back in school. Oh no, this is serious business. These purple-haired damsels come prepared, taping down their cards - often dozens at a time - and, clutching their asthma pumps, play hard to win the often staggering cash prizes. Lucrative, perhaps. But fun?

As usual, trust the gays to make it more entertaining. And here they don't do it the Anglo-Saxon trannies-and-camp-galore gay bingo way, but by adding their own little twist to the prize: say hello to Bingo Boy.

Yes, held twice weekly at rent boy central, Sauna Thermas, a full card wins you no cash here, but, instead, an intimate session. Amazing how much a basket of prime meat can change a game.

Bingo Boy - 20:30-21:30h Tuesday and Thursday
Sauna Thermas, Diputació 46, Eix Esq - 93 325 9346
EUR 14.50. Towel and slipper rental included.

  • Harry new wear

By midnight fingers, still sticky from the grapes, will be hammering out wishes of "harry new wear" and worse by the hundreds. Clearly some help is needed. And thankfully it's now being offered

  • Season's Greetings

The annual batch of Christmas cards has started to clog up my letter box, reminding me that, like dinner parties and pension plans, this is another grown-up thing that I haven't quite mastered yet.

  • Not on the Coffee Table

Every fall the publishers bombard us with books to suit every taste, just in time to be wrapped for Christmas.

  • A Stretch

I wouldn't say that I'm lazy, but physical activity has just never held much appeal. So I figure that if I were ever to take up a sport, it'd be yoga - the only discipline where lying down and breathing can pass itself off as exercise.

  • Buying Time

I'm hopeful about this new concierge service that's fully bookable via email or phone. In addition to standard tasks like personal shopping or getting reservations, they'll also get the dog walked and fed (at least the four-legged ones) or redecorate your home.
