Season's Greetings

The annual batch of Christmas cards has started to clog up my letter box. I know that I should be grateful and all, but having not dispatched a single one myself - again - it just reminds me that, like dinner parties and pension plans, this is another grown-up thing that I haven't quite mastered yet.

The intention really is there, but something inevitably goes wrong. E.g., the ones from 2002 are collecting dust, written but unmailed, because I ran out of stamps, and most from 2005 were returned due to "illegible address" because, after years of always using a keyboard, my handwriting's now worse than a doctor's.

That's where Touchnote.com comes in so handy. Upload a photo, add a message, and enter the recipient's details. They then turn it into a greeting card and take care of the printing, envelope stuffing, stamp licking and mailing, and three days later it'll be delivered. Just in time for Christmas.

The note, of course, you still have to deal with. I always struggle to come up with something remotely witty or personal, but if the picture's really worth a 1,000 words, then I reckon that a simple 'Happy Holidays, Love S.' will do.

I tell ya, economic activity seems to have been reduced to bartering, with nobody paying with actual money. Greater self-sufficiency beckons.

The problem with talent, just like ugly newborns, is that so few people are willing to tell you the truth about them. If you're in advertising you'll at least have a relatively inexpensive option of finding out.

The start of the summer season is as official as it gets. That also means that it's now time to make some tough decisions.

It's easy to be cynical about Sant Jordi but I actually quite like the day. Just walk straight past the street vendors, and past good old Flores Navarro, too.

So, Dove is once again looking for chubby chicks for a commercial. Oh sorry. Zaftig? Generously proportioned? Ugh, no, REAL women. Which explains the re-occurrence of ads with models who don't seem to say no to seconds.
