Life Is A...

When I first started going to discos, wide-eyed and barely legal, I happily queued for hours. The floor would be sticky, the drinks served in plastic cups, and whilst dancing, I'd occasionally hear voice snippets of the radio host from whose show the music had been taped.
I have friends who still throw parties like that. Quite enjoyable ones too. But as a rule, having reached an age where nobody dares ask about it, I no longer move for anything less than a lush venue and a more-than-decent DJ. Thankfully, amidst the current crisis, club nights are bending over backwards to offer up both... and plenty more.
An effective "plenty more" is tricky, though, but if in doubt, throw in a bit of everything and voila!, a cabaret. So this Saturday both Lotus - with its ObScene Cabaret Rock matinee session - and Revolushion - with its Electro Cabaret at Suite - are going all vaudeville with a mix of video art, fashion shows and live acts.
The other option, as ever, is a spot of name dropping. Tonight's second Mousse party, for example, is hosted by METAL and boasts Jordi Labanda on the decks. Who's to say whether that's better than the mix tape? At least the cups will be made of real glass.
