NIGHTLIFE

No Child of Mine

No sooner had the National Statistics Institute predicted a record number of births for this year than four of my friends announced that they had gone and joined the pudding club. Fine with me - except for that moral superiority that suddenly appears the moment the kid pops out. Compared to nursing and raising a little one, my nights out and non-relationships have apparently become signs of a loose, immoral lifestyle. You could almost forget who got knocked up in the first place.
Regrettably, these days being all about momshells and MILFs, it's them and not me who are in tune with the zeitgeist. But just as I was about to go and hang myself in a nursing strap at Prenatal, then I stumbled into this little lifesaver in Barrio Gótico.
Appropriately named after my favourite boozing non-mother, Blondie has been serving up cheap cocktails since last fall. Like many other watering holes in the area, this chic little den by Plaça del Pi is tiny but, refreshingly, there's nothing touristy or studenty about it.
Thankfully you won't hear much talk about diaper rashes or latching problems, either. And after a quick refueling stop here, I might actually just about manage an encouraging "oh no, you hardly smell of baby barf at all".
