A Very Special Day

Today, it's Secretary's Day in the US - or "Administrative Professionals' Day", as they call it over there. It leaves you to wonder - besides how Maggie Gyllenhaal's flick would've fared had it been called The Administrative Professional - if, with an infinite amount of causes and only so many days in a year, there's any day left that isn't special somewhere.

This week alone, we're celebrating or observing Earth Day (today), Malaria Awareness Day (Saturday) and World Intellectual Property Day (Sunday), in addition to national days of countries from England to Tanzania. And then, of course, there's our own Buy Books & Roses Day tomorrow.

It's easy to be cynical about Sant Jordi but, except for the fact that only my dad seems to get me roses and that my mother thinks the occasion appropriate for self-help books ("Being Single Is Not A Disease"), I actually quite like the day.

Walk straight past the street vendors, and past good old Flores Navarro, however, and instead head to Au Nom de la Rose, the French rose specialists. Whatever it's called, in the end, any day is only as special as you make it, so get that special someone a truly special rose.

The problem with talent, just like ugly newborns, is that so few people are willing to tell you the truth about them. If you're in advertising you'll at least have a relatively inexpensive option of finding out.
