Over The Moon

Breaking news everybody: Michael Jackson is still dead! The media may finally have moved on - this week any mentions of moonwalking were about Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin - but Jacko remains lifeless.

So, no longer distracted by the sticky, sweet-talking Queen of Pop, let's turn our attention back to the King, and pay homage one last time. Mindless and too late, you might retort, but hey, the dude's without a brain and remains unburied, so that would only make this Sunday's Moonwalking tribute even more appropriate.

Starting from the Columbus statue, the organizers, Poko Frecuente and Complot, hope to get hundreds to moonwalk up Las Ramblas. They encourage the wearing of white gloves, and also recommend props like epaulettes, gangster hats and cropped trousers. Monkeys, crotch-grabbing and underage boys optional.

If successful, it'll will not only be one last goodbye but also a record-setting for the biggest group to walk the entire length of Las Ramblas without getting harassed by prostitutes or have their wallets stolen. The previous record is allegedly held by the Garcias, a family of three from Girona. Smooth Criminals.

  • Loud and Proud

It was never going to please everybody -  “too activist”, “too commercial”, “too frivolous”, it was mumbled - but, in our humble opinion, the inaugural Pride Barcelona did well, even without the crisis-stricken Matinée Group.

  • Recreative

Lots of impressive creative talent, some in finding constructive feedback to, ehem, less impressive work, but mostly on show in the portfolio of young hopefuls.

  • Shutter Bugged

The masterminds behind PHotoEspaña and the annual cult mag Matador, marked their 15th anniversary by opening a Barcelona branch, complete with gallery, bookshop, café and an event space.

  • Hoss Call

As catalogues go, Daniel Riera’s work with Tamsin Egerton for Hoss Intropia was real fine. But his exhibition in Hoss’ private showroom shows why he’s one of our favourite photographers these days.

  • Precocious

Part of me wants to admire these gifted youngsters, but mostly I'm enraged with jealousy that these kids - some young enough to proffer me their seat on the metro - have more talent than I'll ever have.
