To make his self proclaimed “best mojito in the world” a friend of ours needed some Angostura Bitters. So far, so easy you think. Not so. Even El Corte Inglés, the local department store where you can usually find anything and everything, came up short here. The potent brew (a cocktail requires a mere drop or two) is found exclusively among the vast array of products at Colmado Quilez.
Although it can be difficult to endure the shopkeepers’ harsh faces, often more bitter than the Bitters, and the archaic, number-passing system of service, the store’s meticulous eye for imports is worth it. Revel in discovering the hard-to-find or just enjoy the enticing window displays. Make sure to stop by the liquor annex around the corner on C/ Aragó, too.
If you don’t know its predecessor, then the new brand showcase and trade fair might leave you impressed – pretty, slick and, for being Spain, reasonably well organised.
Local furniture maker Concepta Barcelona pulled out all stops at MACBA on Tuesday night for the presentation of the latest batch of artists invited to its Dress For Success project, in which the artists add a twist of their own to Concepta’s pieces.
Priced to make Zara and H&M look exorbitantly expensive and faster, and even less scrupulous, than Inditex at copying fashion designs, it's been a runaway (and throwaway) success everywhere it's opened.
With the opening of Alex Estilles and Xavi Lanau's brainchild, those delectable fashion samples will now be put on sale to the public. And naturally, being set up by PRs, everything in the shop is for sale.
