To be frank, this is not what it used to be. The crowd’s distinctly more mainstream, suburban and touristy. Seemingly younger, too, though that could just be evidence of our own ageing. There also seems to be less of that “anything goes” vibe.
Yes, too much commercial success and too many neighbour complaints seem to have reeled in the fabulosity factor a bit, but this is still quite a place for anybody craving outdoor clubbing. The surreal, nighttime arrival trek through the Poble Espanyol theme park is an added bonus.
It was to be expected. After years of gay boys spilling out of Gayxample to stake out new territory in Heteroland, the tide is turning: Gayxample is going straight.
Pánico en el Paralelo! ¡Uuhhh!, ¡que miedo! Volvió A Los Huevos Tuyos returned with some who could sing, some who couldn't but who could put on a show, and then some who should just have stayed at home. But, as always, a fabulous time.
