Mulatu Astatke "Yegelle Tezeta" [Aeroplane Remix]

Every time I play this I'm asked what it is, so this week is a good week to point out Mulatu Astatke's "Yegelle Tezeta," as never before has African music been so incredibly hot. In fact, most are calling 2008 the year that African music properly broke into popular Western consciousness with acts like Amadou & Mariam, U-Cef, Rachid Taha, the excellent compilation and remix package Arabesque Arba'a 4 and the imminent opening of Prada's Doubleclub in London Angel [which is half Congolese and half European]. Mulatu Astatke's "Yegelle Tezeta" was first used in Jim Jarmusch's film "Broken Flowers" and has since appeared on Optimo Espacio's "Sleepwalk" LP and the before mentioned Arabesque Arba'a 4, which has some incredible remixes one by Micky Moonlight in particular.
