Apparently
the average person in London gets caught on
a CCTV camera some 300 times a day. How Orwellian,
I was thinking, only to find myself tagged in
ten new photos on Facebook:
there, my Saturday night, documented in excruciating
detail, and irrefutable evidence of the threat
posed by amateur photographers. |

Armed
with mobile phones and compact cameras, these
trigger-happy heathens are turning my life into
a series of blurry JPGs. Oh, the good old days
when photography was an art form and not just
incriminating pixels on a two-inch LCD screen.
But at least I can still trust Madrid-based
La Fábrica to take photography seriously,
and now they are here, too. You see, the masterminds
behind PHotoEspaña and the annual cult
mag Matador, marked their 15th anniversary two
weeks ago by opening a Barcelona branch, complete
with gallery, bookshop, café and an event
space.

Jean-Marie del Moral's "Barceló,
detrás del espejo", a
photo documentary of artist Miquel Barceló
- now world-known for his stunning US$
23 million ceiling
mural at the UN - launched the attractive
space, and co-located with Sarah Stothart's
restaurant there should be a draw at Tapioles
53 for everybody. Picture perfect, you
might say.
