To
the casual observer, working in fashion PR may
seem alluring - all glamourous brands, beautiful
people and fabulous parties. But the events
are distinctly less fun when you're stuck manning
the door, and while the men may be hot, they're
invariably gay. The reality is one of skinny
lattes, skinny bitches, and even skinnier salaries. |
 |
The
one big sweetener, however, has always been
the collection samples that would magically
find their way into your closet. (There's a
reason that PR bitches keep a sample size figure.)
But for the minnows at XXL, Barcelona's preeminent
fashion PR agency, the deal is about to get
less sweet.
With the opening of Private Bazaar, brainchild
of XXL head honchos Alex Estilles and Xavi Lanau,
those fashion samples will now be put on sale
to the public. The new shop, planned to be a
permanent fixture, also sells interior design
objects, furniture and works of art. And naturally,
being set up by PRs, everything in the shop
is for sale.

 |
Showroom sales by PR agencies are nothing
new, but few have a client roster stretching
from Stella McCartney, Prada and Tom Ford
to Custo and Fred Perry. Just don't expect
a smile from the PR assistant at the till.
She may have had her eye on that jumper,
too.
