Wow. It’s July and Ibiza is feeling buuuuuuuusy! After a whirlwind trip to the White Isle in the name of research, we’re back and armed with knowledge. If you’ve already booked a trip, have fun, and if not, we hope this inspires you to get one in.

See you on the dancefloor!

LOCATION ALERT

Cala Conta / Cala Comte

You’ve likely been to Sunset Ashram, and if you’re a White Isle regular, found the rather hidden beach beside it. But it seems like this area is about to get busy… On our last trip we saw a billboard for a new luxury resort opening in 2017 (a Leading Hotels of the World property), and we’ve since heard there are also 15 villas going in that will range in price from €2.5-3.5 mill. Safe to say this time next year the hidden beach might not be so hidden!

NOBU

We came, we saw, we ate sushi

We’d been watching the construction since early May, so we were set on being one of the first in for dinner when they opened their doors end of June. Tables are largely outside and lit by small table lamps (#UJloves), many have beachfront views, and the sushi of course is melt-in-your-mouth fresh. They didn’t seem to be seating that many tables – giving their staff time to ease into things, probably – so the atmosphere was rather relaxed for a Nobu, which was nice. We have a feeling that in a couple of weeks, things will be buzzy, so book a table in advance if you want to get in.

TOP FIVE RUSTIC BEACHES

Good luck finding them!

Cala Escondido

Beaches are a tough one in Ibiza. The easy ones to find are too crowded, and the amazing, rustic ones are largely hard to find. We say put the work in, it’s ALWAYS worth it. Here are five of our faves.

1. Cala Escondido – the little (nudist) sister to the famous sunset spot. Smaller, quieter, and with a chic little solar-paneled chiringuito

2. Pou des Lleó – small, sheltered, and a good refuge away from the crowds. A must if you like the throwback feel of fisherman’s huts

3. Es Racó de Ses Dones – on the far end of Es Figueral. Once reserved as a separate beach for women, access this cove by climbing through a circular gateway and clambering down the rope ladder

4. Cala Boix – the drive here is not easy (pass Cala Mastella with the famous El Bigote restaurant and keep going). We weren’t sure if it was a bike path, or a road… But get there, have a cerveza in their rustic yellow shack on a cliff, enjoy the empty beach, and it’s well worth the adventure

5. Ses Balandres – have trainers, can climb? An old ladder and a rope also help on this steep climb down. Once you see the horizontal rocks, you know you’re near the most rustic beach of them all

TRACK ALERT

Verdict please!

So, this song is getting a lot of airtime in Ibiza. In fact, we heard it four times in the two nights we were out. Hate, by KDA: what do you think?

Richie Hawtin’s ENTER.Sake has been globetrotting the world and for their non-club Ibiza dates this summer, and they’ve partnered with two Blue Marlin Ibiza venues. Book now to secure your spot at the dinner and turn up early for Blue Marlin if you’d like to get in; we were there recently for Pete Tong’s excellent night (#PeteTongSessions) and there were queues down the street – to get in, and then again to leave. If last summer was all about the kimono – to clubs, on the beach, anywhere – this summer it’s all about the headband, be it turban-esque, a head scarf, or just a twisted band.

WORKOUT

It’s not just about the rave you know

We’re always trying to get a workout in, even in Ibiza, but sometimes it’s hard! The agroturismos largely don’t have facilities, and of the hotels that do, their machines are often in a basement, which is hard to face when it’s so beautiful out. So two new options. 1) Cotton Fitness Beach Club in San Antonio. We went by, and while we didn’t love the actual club, they have machines outside, sea views, and healthy food; they also have guided hiking trips and paddle boarding on their schedule. Should you want to keep it more central, 2) The Work Out Club do group beach workouts on Talamanca (and a host of other locations). So yes, throw those trainers in – you might actually use them!

PIKES

What aren’t they doing this summer

With an Ibiza Rocks book, a collab with Rockett St George (pins, wallpaper, neon signs), Mixmag Sunset Labs (Carl Craig and Guy Gerber recently played), an art-tastic Pikes magazine, a new shop with amazing Pikes x Silken Favours cowboy shirts and ponchos, an upcoming Free Women exhibition (opening Aug 24) – and probably more, this crew has definitely not been sleeping! Get down to Pikes to check it out – remember to request guestlist on party nights.

AIRPORT UPDATE

And it’s about time!

You’ve often heard us rant about the lack of facilities at the Ibiza airport. No real restaurant, two sockets in the whole place to charge things, etc. Although it’s not yet a complete makeover, they’ve updated the food court with sushi (which is also available to take away), tapas, and pizza – with sockets at each table. There’s also a new menu at the central spot that includes tacos, salads and more traditional fare, plus a health food-ish kiosk with hummus and poké. We’ll take it.
