Foxy type in E-types prototype

In the past five years we've all seen the rise of the 'hip hotels': customised, individual, quirky and with a definite absence of chocolate mints on your pillow.

But sometimes the people behind these projects seem to forget that we have to actually sleep and eat and shower in these places. OK, great, there's a Playstation in my sink but is there any chance of some soap?

Hotel Fox, situated in the heart of Copenhagen, is the latest incarnation of the hip hotel, but it's also thankfully free of any artistic egos or corporate meddling.

That's thanks to the fact that the 61 rooms of this ordinary, three star hotel have been given over to 21 young, independent artists and designers.

The team is currently renovating the entire building, right down to the carpets and the doorknobs, creating a bespoke environment that doesn't come with a five star price tag.

There's even an open contest for young designers who want to get in on the project. Entries have to be in by 10 April so you'll have to get your skates on.
