Own Art
Your own art

Not that long ago the only places you could buy original art were posh auction houses like Sotheby's, or on holiday, where depending on your penchant, you either got a tasteful watercolour of the beach, or some grotesque outsider art purchased after prolonged haggling in some dark souk (they keep it dark in there for a reason, you know).

Now, with the proliferation of groovy galleries in London there are hundreds of alternatives and the only hurdle is the dosh. No more.

The Arts Council's 'Own Art' scheme offers interest free loans of up to £2,000 so you can spread the cost of your investment over ten installments.

The scheme is accepted at over 250 galleries in the UK, including experimental London galleries Fred, Herald Street and Divid Risley. So even if you didn't make it down to yesterday's Art Car Boot Fair, no more excuses - get on that art ladder.
