Hotels are the new black, the new rock'n'roll, and the new sliced bread, all in one. How else to explain why celebs as diverse as Liam and Noel Gallagher, David Coulthard, and Nicky Hilton have all opened, or are planning to, establishments with rooms for hire. |

At least Missy Hilton can claim to have a pretty good knowledge of hotels (she famously grew up in one), but what the Gallaghers have to offer in this area is less easy to define: indestructible bedrooms and champagne enemas perhaps? Rumours suggest they plan to call their 'boite' Supernova Heights, and open a series of hotels across the USA starting in Miami, New York and LA. But their initial idea to place complimentary cigarettes and bars in every room has been met frostily by US investors. This remember, is a country whose attitude to 'drugs' makes Crusty The Clown look sensible. Hilton's Nicky O Condo Hotel will open in South Beach, Miami this November - rooms are unlikely to be available by the hour. Meanwhile, if daft hotels "owned" by even dafter celebs are not your thing, then you might want to try to the stunning new Marques De Riscal Hotel in the heart of the Rioja vineyards. It's been designed by Frank Gehry (architect of Bilbao's Guggenheim) and looks set to put the little Basque town of Elciego on the map with this extraordinary, and even more extraordinarily located, piece of typically outlandish Gehry design.
