UJ breaks down the pros and cons of London's other top gyms.

Urban Underground:
Gymbox Covent Garden
42-49 St Martin's Lane, WC2N 4EJ - 020 7395 0270

Billed as NYC-style gym (read: dimmed lighting, easy on the paint), this Covent Garden newbie focuses on sparring, as well as more unusual urban workouts (stilletto class). A parking lot in its former life, this gym has retained a urban grit factor, but slicked it up 2007 style.

Pros:

* Creative classes, excellent boxing facilities

Cons:

* Risk of tinnitus from volume of DJ
* Poor layout causing waits at invidual stations and equipment - and this with less than 500 members and planning 2,000
* Uninspiring changing rooms
* Tiny saunas and no pool - we want one

Soul Searching:
Destination Health & Fitness
42-48 Great Portland Street, W1W 7LZ - 020 7636 4477

It's all about you at this gym, focusing on personal goals and support, as well as wiping away the sweat and tears in favour of pampering. So, if getting motivated is your downfall this gym is great for some much needed encouragement.

Pros:

* Nice changing facilities with Molton Brown toiletries, ghd straighteners, etc.
* No contracts
Cons:

* Small and you only get access to premier fitness room if you take a personal trainer

Über Fitness:
KX Health Club
151 Draycott Avenue, SW3 3AL - 020 7584 5333

Clean-cut and ultra contemporary, this state-of-the-art gym focuses on specific needs and individuality. With philosophies on every aspect of health and fitness, this gym is great if you want to be transformed.

Pros:

* Luxurious feel and excellent facilities with plunge baths, steam rooms, relaxation areas, etc.
* Great snacks
Cons:

* Pricey at around £2,500 per year plus a hefty one grand joining fee
* You may have to wear spandex next to Gwyneth

Holistic Haven:
Holmes Place Broadgate
Broadgate One Exchange Place, EC2M 2QT - 020 7422 6400

Value for money - if that's possible for a place that charges £135/month - combined with health and wellbeing, makes for a gym with a range of facilities that aims to make exercise 'fun'. Its recognised holistic studios provide plenty of space for classes that are perfect for those wanting to unwind in a relaxed environment.

Pros:
* Spacious facilities with full length pool
Cons:

* City boys not always the prettiest crowd
* We've never been ones for chains
