Max Push Car by Wolfgang Sirch

Does the name Stan Meyer ring a bell? Probably not, unless you also believe that JFK is alive and holed up with Marilyn Monroe in a secret moon base.

You see, Meyer is alleged to have built the car that ran on water. It was set to revolutionise the world... until Meyer was murdered and his invention was whisked away by the government/oil barons/aliens.

Well, if all that's true then the inventors of the Vectrix electric scooter and the BMW Hydrogen 7 Series might want to start watching their backs.

Ok, so the BMW is hardly going to put the frighteners on the oil industry (it's so expensive it won't be sold, but leased to select customers); but its hydrogen-burning engine that emits only water vapour at least demonstrates that classy, eco-friendly cars are no longer just the thing of bonkers conspiracy theorists.

The people behind the Vectrix, however, may want to hire extra security. This 'super scooter', which is being launched today, not only looks cool, it's nippy (60mph no less!), and is yours for under seven grand. Add the fact that you can say goodbye to the congestion charge and it makes this a tempting little package. Unless you're the paranoid type of course, in which case you might want to stick to the bus.

Vectrix electric scooter - take it for a spin at Spitalfields Market 9:30am-6pm until Wednesday (bring licence).
