Weekend Guide

If you’re not running the London Marathon this weekend (guilty), or you’re complaining about being held up by the people running the London Marathon (guilty) then cast your eyes over our weekend delights - there’s a lot of them. Things are slightly in disarray, with two parties tonight (how to choose!), a Boujis brunch boozy-up on Saturday, live music at Nobu on Sunday night and coffee, nude photography, theatre and shopping in between. As well as a Tom Dixon/Dock Kitchen pop-up at Milan Design Week and an art fair in Hong Kong. Or you could just stay in and read one of these.

This Weekend’s Picks

• FRI Bob Carlos Clarke Bar • SAT Boujis Just Brunch • SUN Nobu Unplugged

Newbie

Movement Club

DJ Lab’s eclectic Dan Avery and techno DJ Matt Walsh have just begun a 3-month residency at new Dalston venue Hysteria, where they’ll be exploring their new wave, house, techno and psyche sounds. There’s a twist though: each night will host a special guest who will be kept secret until they’re on stage, so the focus remains on the atmosphere (intimate, with a 200 capacity) and the music. Big names have reportedly been confirmed so get down there tonight (and have a listen to this beforehand).

Movement Club, Hysteria, 578 Kingsland Road, Dalston, E8 4AH. £4, 9pm-2am.

FRIDAY

DRINK:
Ozone Coffee
  DRINK:
Bob Carlos Clarke Bar

The Kiwis know how to do coffee. And now you can bring a little Antipodean style to your morning at the Ozone’s first London outpost. Skip round the Silicon Roundabout to this new Shoreditch café for breakfast, brunch or lunch, or breeze in for an espresso made with beans freshly roasted onsite. Designed by the team behind The Riding House Café and Pizza East, expect exposed brickwork, weathered tables and a dose of café cool.   A traditional Victorian pub, contemporary photography and top notch London street food… it can only be The Imperial Arms. Little Black Gallery have teamed up with the Chelsea local to showcase the erotic photographs of the infamous Bob Carlos Clarke (though the opening exhibition also includes images from Terry O’Neill, Gered Mankowitz and Mike Figgis). Now the official home of eat.st, and currently occupied by maverick meatballer The Bowler, it’s also a great place to grab a bite. Balls, erotic photography… there’s a joke in there somewhere.

PARTY:
Boujis Just Brunch
  THEATRE:
Big and Small

Brunch just keeps cropping up on the UJ radar right now. This time Boujis’ signature night, Club Haus 80s, is collaborating with Nozomi for a fun brunch tasting menu complete with DJs and party revelling. If you want to carry on dancing, Boujis will be opening their doors early for an after party. All night (and day) looong…   Cate Blanchett is the real draw in this surreal play by German writer Botho Strauss. A mix of road movie and Alice in Wonderland, it follows the life of Lotte, a vulnerable misfit who craves acceptance and affection in a disconnected society. If you’re feeling contemplative and want something a little (or a lot) deep to watch, this is trippy avant-garde theatre at its best.
