Korea Goes Pop

K-Food, K-Pop, K-Town

We've gone a little Korea crazy at UJ HQ. Inspired by the unstoppable PSY and his K-Pop hit Gangnam Style (if you haven't seen the video, check it out here – now), we're snacking on seaweed, lunching at Bibigo and watching Old Boy on repeat. Classic.

We previously had to trek to New Malden for decent bibimbap and bulgogi, but Holborn and Soho are now SK savvy too. And the Korean-fusion street food Kimchi Cult is always a UJ fave.

We're still holding out for a Momofuku of our own though (come on David Chang, jump over the pond), and with news that the new noodle bar opened in the Toronto Shangri-La last week, we're hoping UK expansion is in the pipeline.

Our pork bun cravings were temporarily sated at the Lunchy Peach pop up at the Coach and Horses on Saturday (a Momofuku tribute if you will) but the need for noodles and compost cookies is still strong, which is why we're ready to hit Gizzi Erskine's K-Town pop up next month.

Open for just three days, she'll be serving the likes of bo ssam, crispy tuna rice and Korean fried chicken in subterranean Shoreditch joint Concrete. With sake cocktails, Korean drag queens and karaoke, naturally.

So, brush up on your K-Pop and get ready for some competitive karaoke, kimchi classics and soju, lots of soju. In the immortal words of PSY: “Dress classy and dance cheesy.”
