We're being tactical this weekend. Party tonight (at a DJ off) and tomorrow (at a new Dalston underground tunnel), and then use the rest of the weekend for a little cultural activity and some eating. Check out Bernstock Speirs' new exhibition – hats are imperative – test your spice tolerance and attend a book signing with one of Spain's finest on Saturday. Sunday's all about fried chicken and settling down to watch a decent, Oscar-worthy film.

FRIDAY

DRINK:
Reverend JW Simpson
  PARTY:
Club Trax

Go for a drink at Reverend JW Simpson's house. The bar, created by the people behind Bourne and Hollingsworth, is an homage both to the timeless art of cocktail making and the man that once resided in the apartment. The designers left many of the original features untouched (wallpaper, flooring, tiles and room dividers), adding luxurious fittings and glassware into the mix. The cocktail list will feature classic recipes – think fizzes, flips, cobblers, smashes and sours – with a few unusual ingredients thrown in like liquorice, quince and mead.   Dalston's newest underground dance tunnel opens its doors tonight for Club Trax. Definitive cross-genre music magazine Trax launched in Paris in 1997, and has since done stints at Space Ibiza, Movement in Turin and NAME in Lille, among others. To celebrate the launch of the English edition (on the iPad), Trax has come to London. Tonight they'll be showcasing French label In Finé, with sets from Paris-based Rone and techno/house DJ Danton Eeprom, who cut his teeth on the pre-minimal Berlin scene. There's also a pizza-by-the-slice place upstairs called Voodoo Rays.

Chilli Stand Off

Don the bunny hats and get down to Bernstock Spiers' 30th anniversary retrospective. Iconic duo Paul Bernstock and Thelma Speirs challenged the traditional ideas of millinery in the 80s inspired by the underground club scene. They influenced a whole new – hip - generation of hat wearers (bobble bowlers, mesh beanies, feather bands). The exhibition showcases their work from the past three decades, including drawings, lookbooks and brochures featuring celeb clients like French and Saunders, Bananarama and Kylie. There will also be a special edition bunny cap available at the gallery. Hop on down!   A chilli-off like no other. Eight of London's best chefs will each cook their take on Tex Mex favourite, chilli con carne. Among the contenders will be Dishoom, Gizzi Erskine, Lucky Chip, The Ribman and Masterchef winner Tim Anderson. There'll be two tasting sessions (the winner will be announced at 8pm) along with tequila, Texan beer, live music, a Milk & Honey bar, and dessert from Gelupo and the Meringue Girls. Forget Marfa, Hackney's where the best chilli's at.

EAT:
Wishbone
  FILM:
The Master

We've been eating chicken all summer, but the king of the wings has finally arrived. Shake your tail feather down to Wishbone in Brixton Market to sample the very best fried chicken. Scott Collins (of MEATLiquor) and William Leigh (who went everywhere from Brooklyn to Bangkok to research chicken) will serve a menu of free-range, good quality birds fresh-from-the-fryer. Expect twice-fried Korean style wings, their twist on a chicken burger and mac 'n' cheese nuggets. Needless to say there will be no buckets here.   Following his Oscar-winning masterpiece There Will Be Blood comes Paul Thomas Anderson's highly-anticipated and controversial drama The Master (it's also been billed as a serious Academy Awards contender). The story follows the relationship between an affected naval veteran returning from the Second World War (Joaquin Phoenix) and the charismatic leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman) of philosophical movement "The Cause" (which Anderson based on Scientology) who travel the East Coast to spread their teachings.
