Weekend Guide

Prepare for The Big Freeze this weekend. While you may want to hibernate until February rears its head, you shouldn't because we've got an assorted edit of fun things this weekend – so just brave it with a beanie. Friday offerings include pizza east (not the restaurant) and hip hop west, and on Saturday we welcome a new breakfast drink and celebrate at a house party extravaganza. If you're still going on Sunday then settle down for some yoga and upcoming music talent. None of these appeal? Grandmaster Flash is playing LDN tomorrow night alongside UJ friends Arthur Baker and Audio Sushi.

AGENDA PICK

Bruce Nauman: Mindf*ck

Bruce Nauman's latest exhibition at Hauser & Wirth showcases a selection of work from throughout his career, which spans six decades. The American contemporary artist questions human nature and the mind-body split, often through light sculptures and installations. Expect metapsychology… and puns in neon.

EAT:
VOODOO RAY'S
  PARTY:
IDRIS ELBA PRESENTS 7 WALLACE

We're happy there's a new pizza place in town (burgers have been getting all the attention), especially when it's brought to you by the people behind Dalston Superstore. Their 22" gourmet "pies" will be dished out Big Apple style (big slices) in a variety of fun combos. Try the Garden Centre, Cabbage Patch Kid, Cheese Dreams or the Full Moon, with bacon dust, only available after midnight. Drinks come in the form of house margs or school disco throwbacks such as Jim Beam and ginger beer or Stoli vanilla and cherry cola. For afters? A party in the Dance Tunnel downstairs.   From East to West. Idris Elba – better known as Luther and Stringer Bell – starts his 7-week residency tonight at Love & Liquor. For those who don't know, Hackney-born Elba started DJing in 1986, had a pirate radio show in the 90s and co-produced for Jay Z. DJ Driis (geddit?) will take to the decks each week with a different special guest, playing his edit of hip hop, UK and US garage. We have it on good authority that he knows how to throw a party – book a table and bring everyone you know. We've giving away 2 pairs of free guestlist entries for the night. Email competition@urbanjunkies.com for a chance to win.

STREET STYLE

Urban Nerds Hunter Apparel

We love Urban Nerds and their boat partying antics. They've just launched their limited edition clothing range "Hunter". Our fave: this tangerine coloured beanie. Their last collection sold out in two weeks, so be quick about it.

EAT:
BIG BEAUJOLAIS
BREAKFAST
  PARTY:
ANOTHER PARTY 3RD BIRTHDAY WITH KERRI CHANDLER

Forget the Mimosa. WineChap is championing a new breakfast drink: a light and fruity Beaujolais. Head to The Club at Quo Vadis for a breakfast tasting session of Cru Beaujolais (you might want to go light on Friday eve; it starts at 10am). Food wise, expect morning favourites from the QV bakery with a modern twist (toast with ricotta, squash, bacon, sage and parmesan). Continue onto Love Brunch's first party of 2013 at Bodo's Schloss for some Austrian-style debauchery.   London's love affair with deep house continues. Another Party, which recreates the excitement of bygone dance parties in the late 80s acid rave era, heads up its third birthday bash with the god of deep house Kerri Chandler. Held in the cavernous space of The Sidlings Warehouse, and with support from resident James Manero and FunkyZeit's Mikail, you won't want to leave 'til 6am.

BURNS NIGHT

Chrysan

If you fancy a less traditional Burns Night celebration, head to Chrysan this week. From today they are serving their take on Scotland-meets-Kyoto in a 3-course supper which includes a haggis "Nabe-Burns" – served with dashi turnip and a Yamazaki whisky sauce – prepared tableside. The à la carte menu will also be Burns inspired, with Scottish sourced produce mixed with Japanese flavours (think lobster pot with scallops, mussels and salmon in miso broth). Tartan is optional, Suntory compulsory.

Burns Night Menu at Chrysan, January 24 to 31, Broadgate West, 1 Snowden Street, EC2A 2DQ

UNWIND:
HOTPOD YOGA
  MUSIC:
NOBU UNPLUGGED

Get your downward facing dog on at Hotpod Yoga. London's latest fitness concept (UJ tried-and-tested) is popping up until the end of February in Notting Hill, Fulham and Brixton (with plans to open in The City and Hackney soon). It's a simple but effective premise: vinyasa-based yoga in a heated pod with temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees and big time calorie burning (up to 700). The teachers are great and the 60-min routine is more manageable than bikram's usual 90. One for full time yogis and novices alike.   Nobu Unplugged is back with the next crop of musical talent for 2013. First up will be Tori Kelly – a Californian YouTube sensation (over 30 million hits) who has been working with Bieb's manager – and her sugary acoustics. Andreas Moe's electronic pop will follow. He recently collaborated with Avicii and Tiesto and his second EP, "This Year", will be released in March. The perfect Sunday wind down.
