UJ's neighbourhood crawl

2013 saw us eating (and drinking our way) through Bermondsey, King's Cross and Shoreditch. This year, we've changed routes. Bethnal Green is the new Shoreditch, Clapton is growing up, and Lewisham is the neighbourhood to watch. Read on for our 2014 neighbourhood crawl.

Mainstream: Bethnal Green
Passing the torch from Shoreditch to Bethnal Green, the new 'east spot' has all the trendy trappings. Start the neighbourhood crawl with some cocktails at Peg + Patriot. Here it’s all about the quirky but expertly mixed drinks (think Rice Rice Babies and Rye Your Eyes Mates), low-hanging industrial bulbs, and a bartender named The Talented Mr Fox. For dinner? Head across the hall to Viajante’s replacement, Typing Room. We say try a tasting menu with plates of mackerel with passion fruit and smoked pigeon before the party takes hold at The Dead Dolls House newest disco-infused digs.

Expansion: Clapton
Now, it's onto the ever expanding E5. Grab a seat at newly opened wine bar and delicatessen Verden. Drink wine and create your own tasting board from their selection of cured meat and cheeses, followed by a Bacon Jam Burger at Eat 17’s burger bar, or try a pizza at Yard Sale Pizza's first bricks 'n' mortar home. End the night with Noble Fine Liquors' newborn sibling, P.Franco, a boutique hole-in-the wall wine bar.

On the Radar: Lewisham
Lastly, the neighbourhood on our radar: Lewisham, thanks to Model Market, the lovechild of Street Feast and Hawker House, which is set to open its warehouse doors this weekend. Start with sundowners on the secret (… but not really secret) rooftop aka Lewisham's 'High Line' (see photo above), then it's onto the street stall favourites: Breddos Tacos , Yum Bun and SmokeStak, followed by a whistle stop tour of the Shandy Salon, Rum Shack, Slushy Bar and Winyl Bar (wine and record bar). And before you head home – try a couple of local haunts. The 70's Job Centre is now a cool boozer (named Job Centre) and newly opened aviation themed LP Bar ticks the trend boxes with artisan brews and wine supplied by Borough Wines.

Enjoy.

Last week we took over Paradise by Way of Kensal Green for a sun infused Ibiza bash. Celebrating our newly updated Ibiza guide, Benjamin Cain and Becky Tong took to the decks while we sipped on Balearic cocktails, nibbled on fresh canapés, fanned our way around and partied! We brought the red walls and spirit from DC10 to W10. Click here to see our party pics.
