SUNNY AFTERNOON

transfers to the West End's Harold Pinter Theatre

Mail on Sunday, Daily Express, Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph

*****

Following a sold-out run at Hampstead Theatre, the critically acclaimed production of SUNNY AFTERNOON transfers to the West End's Harold Pinter Theatre.

THE KINKS exploded onto the 60's music scene with a raw, energetic new sound that rocked a nation. But how did that happen, where exactly did they come from and what happened next?

With Music and Lyrics by Ray Davies, a new Book by Joe Penhall and Direction by Edward Hall, SUNNY AFTERNOON depicts the rise to stardom of THE KINKS. Set against the back drop of a Britain caught mid-swing between the conservative 50s and riotous 60s.

EAT:
Shindig
  SHOP:
Louis Vuitton X Dover Street Market

Cafés by day, restaurants by night… this is the latest concept from café Lantana whereby both the Fitzrovia and Shoreditch coffee shops transform into dinner-only restaurants, under one name: Shindig. Expect casual eateries with menus of BBQ beef short ribs, braised pig cheeks and hush puppies (deep fried cornbread) – and, of course, their signature banana bread served with banana custard on a salted chocolate base. And when the sun rises, it’s back to Lantana.   This weekend Dover Street Market is set for a Louis Vuitton dressing as the conspicuous powerhouse takes over the windows of the concept store. Having already launched its pop up boutique inside DSM in August (until October 14), the window display is part of the celebrations for the concept store’s 10th anniversary. Be quick, this is the last weekend before Philo replaces Ghesquiere on Monday. Happy Birthday!

SATURDAY

SEE:
High Street Highline
  EAT:
Design and Dine

Start your Saturday with a rooftop hop. One of our top picks for LDF, Collectives High Street Highline have taken over Camden's vacant rooftops to create a Camden Highline. From a model train track and giant birdhouses to billboards and colourful flags, this is design with a purpose: to campaign for a LDN Highline. UJ votes yes.   For those needing a pit stop between the LDF (or LFW) happenings, book in for a spot at Design and Dine. Danish design brands HAY and WRONG FOR HAY will be collaborating with Finnish chef, Antto Melasniemi (of Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen Restaurant) for a pop up dining experience alongside the design exhibition. Meaning: the restaurant will be inside the showroom. Expect trendy Nordic dishes – fresh, foraged and seasonal with the colours, textures and shapes of the collection mirrored on the plates.

SHOP:
Off The Grid
  WATCH:
Everyman in Selfridges

And for our last LDF pick, check out Darkroom’s latest collection, Off The Grid: a collection of home wares based on the architectural and design movement of Superstudio. Formed in 1966, the movement was part of the anti-design culture when functionality was surpassed over design. Enter gridded patterns – on everything from buildings to textiles and furniture – a technique replicated circa 2014 at Darkroom. Our favourite piece? The hand sculpted tables made from 3000 individual Italian glass mosaic tiles.   Selfridges just got its first cinema. But banish thoughts of Westfield and VUE and instead think of, well, Selfridges. Expect films chosen by fashion designers (including The Virgin Suicides, as chosen by Marc Jacobs, Withnail and I, favourite by Paul Smith, and The Devils, picked by Rick Owens). Plus, there’ll be a rotation of classics, new releases and documentaries such as today’s screening of Advanced Style. Naturally.
