Hello weekend, you may be cold and wet, but we’re ready for you. From an audio-visual party and drug-induced exhibition to a couple of dive bars – one tropical, the other Kung Fu – we’re battling the elements and heading out. And if we do need some comfort food we have fried chicken and waffles and a croque monsieur doughnut on standby. So rain, hail or shine, we’ve got it covered. Have fun!

FRIDAY

DO:
AXON Live
  DRINK:
PimpShuei

Start the weekend with some immersive art via Robert Bell and his latest exhibition AXON - think paintings, projections and installations, all designed to mirror the electrical impulses in the brain. And because it’s Friday night, head there from 7pm as Joe Goddard (Hot Chip member and one half of The 2 Bears) takes to the decks for an audio-visual arty party. Best bit, it’s all free!   PimpShuei is no ordinary dive bar. First, it’s London’s first "chopsocky" bar: think Kung Fu movies, game consoles, and vintage arcade games. Second, all drinks (Tsingtao beers and Wong Island Iced Teas…) are served with fortune cookies and the décor is classic Chinatown – golden waving cats, lanterns made out of takeaway cartons and dragons. Oh, and let’s not forget about the soundtrack: hip hop throwbacks. In short, we can’t get enough.

SATURDAY

SEE:
Schizophrenogenesis
  PARTY:
Klub Trop

Love or loath Damien Hirst and his big-bill artworks (he did just sell a £4million piece at Frieze), the latest exhibition at the Paul Stolper Gallery, Schizophrenogenesis, is set to be his biggest yet, literally. Hirst has taken his usual muse – pharmaceuticals – to make sculptures of lozenges, pills, bottles, and syringes. And in typical Hirst fashion, all the limited edition drugs are for sale…   Flamingos, swim up-style cocktails and disco balls aplenty…welcome Klub Trop. The latest bar to hit the Stokey strip is leaving no tropical stone unturned. Fill up on teriyaki skewers, down some cheap and cheerful caipirinhas and tropical sours (£6), bust a move on the multi-coloured chequered dancefloor (Saturday Night Fever, anyone?), and let the sunshine vibes live on!

SUNDAY

Brunch:
Foxlow
  SHOP:
Nixon LONDON

Brunch is officially on the menu at Foxlow and it goes like this: breakfast burgers, fried chicken and waffles, sweet potato and kale hash, avo on toast… you get the picture. But the pièce de resistance that has us salivating? The Montecristo Cronut, a “croque monsieur doughnut covered in icing sugar and maple syrup”. Drinks wise, experiment with some bottled brunch cocktails courtesy of Mr Lyan before moving on to a trendy aperol spritzer slushie, or simply stick to the traditional bottomless Bloody Marys.   Another addition to the return of skate culture (re-launch of Stussy, The Board Room at Selfridges, The House of Vans…) is Nixon London, the street wear accessories label doing something a bit different with its watches. From the ready-made section in the shop to the vintage workshop and bespoke service, this is more classic timepiece than sk8er watch. We love.

PSSSSST: UJ RUMOUR MILL
Golborne Road

Golborne Road. Always had so much potential – local village vibe that’s a bit rough around the edges, with amazing people watching and good footfall – but never really delivered. New openings are never quite up to scratch, and current offerings leave much to be desired. But after a stop at the recently launched John Doe (bar, window dining, best salt baked sea bass we’ve had this side of Formentera), we think this could be the start of things to come. We hear this little corner of West London is on its way to building a bit of restaurant row. There is a Japanese and a Nordic restaurant en route, and Beach Blanket Babylon (eek) is opening a ‘pub’ (double eek) in the space that’s eternally under construction at the top of Golborne Road (ex-Earl of Portobello). With two huge apartment buildings going up too, is it time to buy here, or time to hit the road? Only time will tell. For now, we’re just happy there’s a bit of a restaurant revolution going on in a much loved pocket of London. Let’s hope they keep it one part rough though.
