We’ve got an eclectic mix of happenings this weekend. We’re starting with healthy sandwiches, followed by a raucous house party. Saturday, we’re filling up with wings and eggs before going down the rabbit hole. Sunday, we’re dancing live to Grace Jones and eating from London’s best restaurants. Oh, and in other news, this summer, we’re feeling the vibe of posh pop ups (Krug with chips, why did it take so long?).

This Weekend’s Picks

TOP 5

posh pop ups

1. It’s all about gin cocktails and inner city picnics at Sipsmith’s Sipping Garden at Le Méridien

2. Drink the most British of Champagnes in the most British of hotels at The Goring’s Bollinger Secret Garden.

3. In case you haven’t heard, it’s all about Champagne on ice this summer. Try it out at the Moët Ice Impérial pop up on the Madison rooftop.

4. Also on the radar: Krug and Chips. The posh pop up of the summer.

5. Cîroc has settled on the ‘London Riviera’ this summer complete with flamingos, punch and nautical stripes.

If you haven’t been to the Kopparberg Urban Forest yet, make sure to visit this week. Aside from the headline acts playing this week, DJ Yoda and Norman Jay, we can’t seem to get enough of the frozen fruit cider and Hard Yard cocktails. So, if you want a 101 in a bit of Scandi cool with London edge, pop into the forest. Get in the mood here.

The Kopparberg Urban Forest. June 10 – June 12, free entry. Open every Wednesday to Sunday. Wednesday – Friday: 4pm-11.00pm, Saturday – Sunday: 12pm-11.00pm
37 – 41 Whitepost Lane, Hackney Wick, E9 5EN. Next to Hackney Wick Overground station.

FRIDAY

EAT:
O Food
  PARTY:
Artwork at the Nest

The latest ‘fast-cuisine’ to hit the capital, O Food offers sustainable Nordic sandwiches. The menu, spearheaded by two-starred Michelin chef Mikkel Maarbjerg, is focused on seafood and vegetarian combos. Expect traditional Danish fish frikadelle (fish meatballs), prawns, herb baked Portobello mushrooms and oak-smoked mackerel, with refreshments by way of cold press juices and birch water, naturally.   For those who missed out on raving with Artwork and his mates Skream and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs in a stranger’s living room a few Wednesdays ago, The Nest have been recreating that vibe at The Nest every Friday in June. The party starts on Dalston Roof Park before moving to the club, which has been transformed into Artwork’s own house, for afters. Expect a stellar secret guest line-up.

SATURDAY

EAT:
Wingseggs
  DRINK:
The Wonderland Bar

The egg trend is still going strong. While we wait for Egg Break in Notting Hill to open (a similar concept to Eggslut in LA, we assume), WingsEggs has just opened in Fulham. The concept? Exactly what it says on the tin: wings and eggs. Thanks to JP Tanti of the Hoxton Grill, the restaurant has over 13 choices of each. Come here to stray from your regular Royale or Benedict.   Now, down the rabbit hole. The Wonderland Bar, the theatrical pop up that was part of Alice’s Adventures Underground during the Vault festival, has remained. Head in for hedge mazes and flamingo croquet mixed in with contemporary DJs, bands and installations. Cocktails are, of course, influenced by Alice’s adventures but sans shrinking and growing, unfortunately.

EAT:
Taste of London
  PARTY:
British Summer Time in Hyde park

If you suffer from a case of "too many restaurants, too little time", now’s your chance to have your fill in one fell swoop. Do a culinary crawl of London’s best restaurants at Taste of London: The Palomar, Lima Floral, Kurobuta Koya Bar, The Clove Club… the list goes on. Expect interactive demonstrations throughout the day, as well as cocktail master classes, pop up bars…and Gin & Tonic ice creams! Word to the wise, get ready to queue.   Or go to an outdoor gig. Tickets are still available for this Sunday’s all-star cast in Hyde Park: Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, Nile Rodgers with up ‘n’ comers Years & Years and pop sensation Mika. Enough said. We suggest bagging a last-minute ticket now.

The Ivy

1-5 West Street, WC2H 9NQ

In A Sentence
Same Ivy values with a lick of gloss and an updated menu.

Vibe and Decor
Here, it’s all class. The Ivy may have just had a multi-million pound facelift but the iconic spot has retained its old school values. White linen, glamour, suits and quiet chatter. We say get a plush stool at the new glistening bar for luxe bar dining.

Flavours
‘World cuisine’ may usually be a no-no but The Ivy has done it well. We would normally say swap your usual Ivy menu staples (the Ivy Hamburger, fish ‘n’ chips, sausage and mash…) for some new additions such as the tossed salad of barbecued squid, corn-fed chicken breast with pumpkin pistou and tea smoked short ribs, but the shepherds pie and steak tartare will have us coming back again. Dessert wise, make use of the expert sommeliers and go for a dessert wine or port.

Top Tip
This is THE after-theatre spot, not only for location but the atmosphere kicks up a notch. Oh, for those with bags, the cloakroom has moved, but don’t worry, just ask the maitre d’.

Highlight
It's traditional and old school feel because, even in London, something’s should never change.
