EAT
YOSMA

Sept 5

Raki – Turkey’s national aperitif – has yet to hit the trendscape in London, but this might be the beginning of things to come. Yosma, the new Turkish restaurant helmed by chef Hus Vedet (previously of 2 AA Rosette Caxton Grill and Jamie Oliver’s Barbecoa) has given the aperitif top standing on its cocktail list. Curated by mixologst Matt Whiley, expect to wash down your Anatolian plates (such as marinated sea bass and Turkish take on dumplings) with raki-laden cocktails – we’ll be starting with the Pervane (gin, pistachio and fig shrub with raki topped with soda).

Yosma, 50 Baker Street, W1U 7BT. Currently in soft launch (50% off food). Officially opens Sept 5

DO
The First Annual Cambridge Heath Gay Street Ball & Crawl

August 27

We love the start of traditions and this one looks like a good-un, organised by Bistrotheque to celebrate the newfound gayness of Cambridge Heath. Like any good party, the crawl starts with booze and tunes outside Bistrotheque on Wadeson Street, before the ball at 4pm. Open to all comers, there are no rules: walk individually or collectively, in sync or free form – just dress to impress the judges. Then, it’s onto the Queen Adelaide, followed by Savage at midnight. Raving and misbehaving of the highest order guaranteed.

The First Annual Cambridge Heath Gay Street Ball & Crawl,
Aug 27, 23-27 Wadeson Street, E2 9DR. From 2pm

WATCH
'Desire Caught by the Tail' by Pablo Picasso

August 25 & 26

Who knew Picasso had penned plays? Not us. So, the news that they not only exist but will be performed live in two exclusive outdoor performances has us excited. This will be the first UK production of Picasso’s play ‘Desire Caught by the Tail’, the last being at the Guggenheim, New York in 2012. Written in occupied Paris in 1941, it was first read by the local literati such as Simone de Beauvoir and Picasso himself. It’s said to be ‘bawdy and burlesque’ and just plain weird – we wouldn’t expect anything less from the surrealist painter.

Desire Caught by the Tail Bow Arts, Bow Arts Courtyard, 183 Bow Road, E3 2SJ. Tickets from £12
