Here it is, our second seasonal bumper and our final newsletter of the year. We’re saying goodbye to 2016 in true UJ style with boozy crackers, a dose of tradition at the Barbican, dinner and DJs on NYE and an alternative Christmas playlist. See you in 2017!

DRINK:

Sager + Wilde’s Christmas Cocktails

The best December nights are spent with friends and a festive tipple. That’s exactly what we’ll be doing at Sager + Wilde on Paradise Row, where you can sample a range of seasonal Old Fashioned cocktails in their cosy lounge bar. Highlights include the Marshmallow Milk Punch and the Baked Apple, both of which are already making our mouths water.

Prices vary. 250 Paradise Row, E2 9LE

GO:

Handel’s Messiah at the Barbican

Embrace your traditional side with a one-off performance of Handel’s epic choral masterpiece Messiah at the Barbican. Renowned conductor William Christie leads his ensemble, Les Arts Florissants, in a Baroque performance of the piece. Forget Bublé and take it back to the old school for a night.

Tickets from £40. 19th December, 7pm, Silk St, London EC2Y 8DS

PULL:

Balans Soho Society: Christmas Crackers

Let’s face it: Christmas crackers are mandatory at this time of year, but so often they contain something useless (which ends up going in the bin). Soho stalwart Balans has just changed all that. Their crackers contain a miniature bottle of one of their signature festive cocktails, a free cocktail voucher – and of course the obligatory joke and crown. Way better than nail clippers.

£60 for a box of 6, available to purchase here

PARTY:

Pop Brixton: Supa Dupa Fly

Pop Brixton is known for its selection of street food and bars, but what you might not know is that it’s also got a club inside, affectionately hailed as the Pop Box. On Friday 16th December, the Pop Box plays host to a special Christmas edition of Supa Dupa Fly: a night dedicated to all things R&B and hip hop. Time to work off those tacos.

Free entry, 16th December, 49 Brixton Station Road, SW9 8PQ

BOOK NYE:

DINNER AND DJS

If you haven’t figured it out by now, we love eating, and we love dancing. Luckily for us (and you), some of UJ’s favourite restaurants are opening their doors for a late night service and combining good food and good music this NYE. There’s a Thai feast and live DJs at som saa, four courses and a laser rave at Hoi Polloi, and Champagne and suckling pig at St. John. Oh, and if you’re headed to Hyde Park for the fireworks instead, stop by Bubbledogs and pick up a Grab N Go Hamper filled with hot dogs and Champagne. Phew!

All events can be booked through the website of the relevant restaurant
