Not Your Typical Bar

As you might have guessed, at UJ we love a good bar. 2017 is already looking promising, with the launch of Tony Conigliaro’s Untitled and a new menu at the Mondrian’s Dandeleyan just around the corner. But recently we’ve started to notice some potential new faves popping up in cinemas, garage and at the the theatre. This is multi-tasking at it’s finest.

All of the Curzon cinemas have bars and the newest member of the family is no different. Bringing their independents and Hollywood classics to Aldgate, it’s time to head east to visit the new four-screen cinema. Stylish with comfy reclining seats, snacks and drinks, this could quickly become your favourite movie stop. For the ultimate movie night, there’s a bar with a cocktail menu and craft beers. Yes please.

We’ve done movies and a bar, so what about an all-day bar in a garage? The revamped General Store opens this month after a bit of a makeover. Before, you couldn’t look into The Garage when walking past; now you’ll be able to peek in and see the all-day bar at the front, which is our favourite part. Coffee by day, craft beer and cocktail bar by night. Our highlight? The cocktails are going to be served from items you’d actually find in store: think cornflake packets and soup tins.

After the success of Naughty Piglets in Brixton, The Other Naughty Piglet is making its way to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new theatre, formerly St James’ Theatre. The new wine bar and small plate menu at The Other Palace Theatre is ideal if you get peckish (the truffle rarebit and smoked eel with beetroot and horseradish caught our eye) but our highlight is the original theatre bar. If you needed more convincing, there’s a soft launch with 50% off. There’s more choice than its big brother, and more wine. Take your seats.
