The Culturist

London’s cultural highlights this May

It’s finally here. Get out your S/S wares and book in those cocktails. Spring is about to turn into summer and we are so ready to dance the night away. Frank’s opens up its much-loved square in the sky, Angels In America arrives on stage (and there’s still hope for booking tickets), and we reveal our favourite new tomes to weigh your coffee table down.

GO:
Frank’s And Bold Tendencies Return
. . .
Oh, those Campari nights. Situated high up on the 10th floor of a Peckham multi-storey car park, Frank’s re-opens on 19th May for the summer season. Aside from a well-edited menu and now-famous negronis, Frank’s is one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset. Downstairs, Bold Tendencies will be running their Multi-Story Orchestra programme for another summer, with a huge array of performances already booked in.

A founding member of Los Angeles’ Chicano artist collective Los Four, Frank Romero is one of the city’s most iconic artists. Famed for blending city lore and Latin American heritage with depictions of looping highways, pastels and political unrest, a sprawling retrospective of his work at the Museum of Latin American Art enters its final weeks this month.

BOOK:
Angels In America
. . .
We get it. Bagging tickets for Tony Kushner’s 1980s epic drama was never going to be easy. Add in Andrew Garfield to the mix and yes, it’s no surprise the entire run has sold out. But everything’s not lost. The National Theatre are running a series of ballots for tickets to select shows – you just need to make sure you’re quick off the mark if you get through the ballot stage – the next ballot opens on 11th May.
