EAT:DANCE:
Lucky & JoySom Saa Lates

After a few hot pop-ups, Ellen Parr (The Art of Dining) and Pete Kelly have just taken up residency under the arches at Cambridge Heath, serving up punchy plates of regional Chinese fare: think cumin lamb ribs, bang bang chicken salad and red braised whole bream. Head next door to The New Leaf for a yuzu sake slushy afterwards. It’s the first Friday of the month and that means it’s time for another Som Saa Late! Mystery Jets are taking to the decks playing ‘everything from T.Rex to trap’, and the Thai charcoal grill will be fired up until 1.30am, with drinks flowing until 3. Plus, it’s free! See you there.

TRY:GO:
Alex Nietosvouri at CarouselEastern Electrics Festival

Heads up – Swedish prodigy Alex Nietosvouri is coming to Carousel, and only for four days. This is precise, technical cooking from a cutting-edge chef: his sample menu includes sunflower tartlet with raw prawns, lightly baked cod with girolles, confit duck feet and horseradish ice cream. One for adventurous eaters. Carl Cox, Hot Since 82, Skream, and Oneman – Eastern Electrics is here! Taking place in Morden Park, this is an all-dayer not to be missed. There are still a few last minute tickets left, now here’s hoping the weather holds out.

ORDER:HAVE:
Canapés from DeliverooAfternoon Tea at the Barbican

Deliveroo really is taking over our lives. Lazy Friday night dinners, hectic lunches in the office, and now… canapés. If you’re planning a civilised affair and you’re in need of some sustenance, the caterers The London Kitchen are now offering canapés via the app. Smoked salmon and cream cheese blini anyone? Afternoon tea sometimes feels like a bit of a stuffy, overrated idea, but #UJLoves the idea of having it at the Barbican against the brutalist backdrop of their leafy conservatory. Enjoy a slice of cake and a sandwich amidst your favourite fern. But make sure you book, it gets busy and you can’t just turn up.

INTERNATIONAL:

Viva Las Vegas – B-EAT at Tomorrowland

So, when we were invited by the Las Vegas Tourism Board to go to Tomorrowland to see top Vegas chefs on stage, alongside DJs, to eat a three-course dinner, and dance – all to the backdrop of an open kitchen – we didn’t know what to expect. But you know what? We had a great, great time. Vegas has always known how to entertain – and this B-EAT ‘session’ (as it was called) didn’t disappoint. Highlights were definitely the chefs – this was not your average festival fare – and the space. The intimate stage where the sessions were held was a welcome reprieve from the (brilliant) mayhem of Tomorrowland. And in typical Vegas style, this really seemed to be a hospitality first – and we’re sure it won’t be the last we’ll see of this concept. So Vegas, well done you! We’ll have another plate of those (delicious) prawns, with a side of tunes any day.
