Upwardly Social

East End boozing establishments - not the best place for a sophisticated lady.

Though we spent most of our student days lining up for 333 or Charlie Wright's, lately we've preferred champagne swilling on the west side of town.

No longer.

A new members bar Eight might convince us to cross London's East/West line. Located in the heart of the City, Eight is reassuringly expensive. While most late night establishments focus on a gimmick - cabaret, bands or dodgy DJs - Eight is all about leather club chairs, cocktails, and quiet card games. Bliss.

Other features include three 9ft Brunswick championship pool tables, a cinema and three private games rooms, complete with maxi-bars, LCD screen and iPod decks.

And with fingertip entry soon to be sorted, that means there won't be riffraff stumbling through the doors. Except, well, us.
