Watered Down

"I'm done," said a friend, recently. "Alcohol and I are breaking up".

Haven't we all made that promise at some time or other? Sworn off booze after a particularly heavy/embarrassing weekend (we're cringing about a few right now). But it doesn't really matter how many times you pledge you're going dry: by Wednesday, you're necking that beautiful bottle. Again.

It's just too difficult to cope in London without a few. We can't imagine enjoying London without the hazy buzz of a half bottle of wine. And certainly a lot less fun.

But it would be good to cut down, which is why we're all about the new low alcohol wines hitting the market. Both Waitrose and Sainsbury are launching a selection of low alcohol wine, meaning that you can still sink your dinner party average of two bottles without, I don't know, snogging the host and then taking a nap in the loo.

Not, obviously, that we've ever done that.

Alcohol free wines and other alternatives available online from specialists alcoholfree.co.uk and lono.co.uk
Lower alcohol wines now available at Waitrose, Sainsbury's and thewinesociety.com
