March 14th a.k.a. international Steak and BJ Day is upon us…and yes, it means what you think it does. Although the growing popularity of this date of, ahem, male appreciation calls into question the evolutionary state of the gender, an elegant yang to the holiday's carnal ying is also staging a full frontal.
Last month Hywel Davies's Modern Menswear book chronicled the rise of Menswear from obscurity to necessity. Now we get word that Dover Street Market is extending their exclusive allure this spring as the first shop outside Tokyo to carry Commes de Garçons' hand-finished Homme Deux line. (Think Armani chic with anime accents.)
Even East London's promoting full on class with the opening of Philip Start's (the founder of men's store Woodhouse and the cult Start boutiques) Tailoring and Made-to-Measure shop. A Savile Row meets Shoreditch mantra comprises bespoke suits and a complementary accessories range (custom ties, shirts and cufflinks). For less patient lads there is an exclusive selection of ready made suits by Balenciaga and Aquascutum.
Flesh and fallatio? Boys will be boys, but at least they'll look like men.
