Green Mango with Chili Salt
Serves 1-2 as a snack
This is a refreshing snack that you can find sold all over Asia, especially in bus and train stations where vendors pack it up in little plastic bags with wooden forks for travellers to eat it during their journeys.
This can also be made with fruit like pineapple, pomelo or star fruit, but I like it best with green mango. Green mango is essentially a completely unripe mango and is easily available at Indian and South East Asian shops.
Ingredients
1 green mango
2 tsp sea salt
1 red chili
lime wedges to serve
Instructions
Peel the mango and placing it with its pointiest end downwards on a chopping board, slice the mango flesh into long slices from top to bottom.
Place the salt and chili in a mortar and pestle and pound until the chili is thoroughly smashed up and distributed through the salt.
Serve the mango slices on a plate with the lime wedges and the chili salt in a small separate bowl for dipping the slices into.
