Makin' Do

A single white Doc Marten landed on my desk yesterday. I'm not a big boot kinda gal so I wasn't exactly thrilled, and its lone status left it useless as a re-gifting option. Closer inspection revealed glitter pens, glue and paint - apparently to decorate it with for the annual boot design comp. Ugh.

What is it with crafts? The knitting thing went over my head; the only pearls I know go around my neck (easy boys), and I don't own a teapot full stop, let alone one that needs its own bloody cosy. The last time I used sticky-back plastic was before Blue Peter started giving out badges for inane acts of craftiness, and I categorically am not about to take up pottery, wet clay sex or not.

So, with that in mind, I'm wondering whether the new Make Lounge is anything more than an adult's after-school club for recovering alcoholics and socially-stunted individuals looking to bond forcibly with the aid of PVA glue.

But then, scant hours later, I found myself reaching for the glitter pens. So now my boot is parrot green with sparkly pink and red hearts. I'm checking into closet crafters first thing tomorrow. Or maybe I just need to give myself permission to be the artist I truly am. How did this happen? I'm supposed to be cool, right?
