The Lady in Waiting

New Zealand has long given birth to some intriguing musical gems (see The Black Seeds, Fat Freddy’s Drop etc) all borne out of a surprisingly healthy underground music culture.

Pip Browne earnt her stripes not in Wellington though, but by playing in various bands in Sydney before heading to London town having first established firm bonds with the Modular crew under the guise of Ladyhawke.

You certainly should have heard irrepressible single ‘Back Of The Van ‘ by now. Coming over like Joan Jett, Van Halen and Stevie Nicks all at once, Ladyhawke darts between blatant pop appeal and being a credible hipster who’s got a gift for classic songwriting.

Having just caused mayhem on The Camden Crawl, she’s set to play at The Great Escape in Brighton on 15 May, before a main stage appearance at Lovebox in July, and a show at Camp Bestival the same weekend.

The fact is ‘Back Of The Van’ is the best and biggest pop song this summer. Resistance is futile.
