What’s not to Lykke

Swedish singer Lykke Li is being hailed as Scandinavia’s answer to Feist. She certainly has the correct credentials.

She makes slightly off-kilter soulful electronic pop music which thankfully is as engaging as it is deemed to be cool. Her album ‘Youth Novels’ is also produced by Bjorn of Peter Bjorn & John which won’t hurt either.

In fact her chums include other Swedes of note such as The Concretes and Robyn, both of whom pop up in the video to ‘I’m Good, I’m Gone’.

The stars are certainly aligning for this talented 21 year old. Best of all though, as her recent performances at SXSW and The Scala prove, Li, whose parents know her as Lykke Zahrisson, really comes into her own on stage. Her spellbinding presence and impure voice shine back when the spotlight is pointed towards her.

The truth is this girl ain’t Feist. She’s doesn’t need to be.

'Youth Novels’ is out on 2 June
You can see Lykke for yourself at The Great Escape stage at the Lovebox festival on Saturday 19 July.
