Spaced Out

This may come as a surprise to anyone who recalls my aversion to ferns (suspicious little buggers), but when it comes down to it, I love the wind in my hair and the sun on my back more than anything else. And clearly I'm not the only one yearning for a touch of green in the city.

From guerrilla gardeners to pop-up parks on Brick Lane, everyone's beginning to think outside the box. As part of the London Festival of Architecture, there's even an outdoor living room doing the rounds. With a Kishimoto-designed sofa, table, lamp and armchair, it started on the Strand and was recently spotted chilling on Sloane Square. Now, if we could just lure it to Somerset House later this month where the summer screenings are taking place under the stars…

But even better would be to bask in the sunshine as I type this, rather than dodging the errant sunbeams that sneak through the office blinds, and worrying about zebra-tan. Luckily an Outdoor Office is popping up in St James Park for the next two days, overlooking the lake just off Birdcage Walk, complete with Wi-Fi, board room, desks and even a water cooler.

If ever there was a time to be an outsider, this is it.

Screenings at Somerset House - 31st July – 9th August, £12.50
