Bar Fly: Barrio Change / Anyone For Gin

Our UJ bar spies are everywhere, selflessly quaffing champagne and martinis by the dozen, as they tirelessly observe every detail of London's legendary nightlife to bring you the gossip. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.
Anyone For Gin?
Could that herbaceous elixir of life that we dub so simply ‘gin’ really be any bigger? Hendricks have long been alcoholic patrons for such gentlemanly endeavours as The Last Tuesday Society and various Chap events, Right Gin chose the grand Volstead for its launch earlier this year, and next Wednesday sees the return of the Tanqueray Tables , offering juniper-tinged access to some of the most exclusive venues in town. Not that I’m complaining. Have I never mentioned that Gimlet is in fact one of my middle names?
Time At The Bar
There I was, last Friday, enjoying a brief spot of ‘research’ (gosh it is a tough job this) at a certain arboreal brasserie on Sloane Square, when I couldn’t help but overhear the bartender ask the two charming ladies who were sat at the bar if they were done so that a pair of city chaps could have their seats. For the first part, what ever happened to chivalry? But add the fact that the young ladies had half of their second bottle of bubbly still in front of them, and one cannot help but wonder: I thought the idea was to keep paying customers, not pester them into leaving…
Barrio Change
The lovely chaps at Barrio North, that wee tunnel of Latin-infused alcoholism (excuse me, ‘escapism’) threw a rather masochistic free-for-all for friends to launch their new menu on Wednesday. Why it wasn’t rammed to the gills, I must admit I’ll never know. Anyway, should one find oneself out Islington-way, may I humbly recommend the smooth capsicum-driven Hoodrat, and the Bourbon/Bajan rum Old Fashioned, the ODB. Just tell them I sent you, and do try the latter served a la Manhattan.
Yours, slurring slightly at the bar,
The Bar Fly
