Honey and Oat Infused Vodka

Image

No Russian meal is complete without icy cold glasses of vodka and showing your man that you can one-up his gran in the vodka stakes is a sure to set your courtship on a smooth path.

Infusing your own vodka is incredibly easy and tastes far superior to the flavoured vodkas that you can buy. At EDT we infuse vodkas with all manner of flavours including vanilla, pepper, lemongrass and chili. This vodka infused with oat and honey is based on a recipe from the wonderful Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant in upstate New York.

Ingredients

1 litre of good quality vodka
285 grams rolled oats
250 mls honey

Instructions

Place the vodka, oats and honey in a bottle with a tight-fitting lid. Place the bottle in a cool, dark place and shake it vigorously once a day for 5 days.

After 5 days, strain the vodka through a piece of muslin cloth and discard the oats. Leave the vodka to settle for 15 minutes, then strain again through a clean piece of muslin. Repeat this 5 times or until the vodka looks free of any powdery sediment. (the vodka will still be a little murky)

Leave the vodka in the fridge for a week, then serve well chilled in icy shot glasses or use in cocktails.
