Off The Record
Whether you’re an aural afficianado or just need some tunes to kick start the weekend, UJ’s sonorous sleuth scratches out the latest and greatest from the music scene for your listening pleasure.
Rosie Oddie and The Odd Squad
This wonderfully quirky UK based five-piece make the kind of foot-shaking indie-pop that sounds like Architecture In Helsinki and Tilly and The Wall never happened. Really, if you’re not taken by Rosie Oddie’s cigarette toasted larynx (and name, can’t forget the name) you’ve been in Ibiza for far too long.
Rosie Oddie and The Odd Squad will be playing The Macbeth with The Chap on Sat 11th September
Riz MC
There aren’t many rhymers, bar maybe The Streets, who find themselves playing at Royal Festival Hall three times in as many months. Perhaps that’s why, that and his witty and insightful turn of phrase, explains why the young Oxford alumni is likened to M. Skinner in darkened clubs and flouro blogs.
Riz MC will be playing RFH September 11th.
And finally… (aka for the love of good free music…)
Fan Death
I’m not too sure about the origins of this US based mysterious duo of disco loving femme fatales, but one thing that’s certain is their party inducing drama-infused blend of The Knife meets Heartbreak sound is catchier than September sniffles.
Download tracks from their Myspace, or better (?) yet pickup their debut single ‘Veronica’s Veil’ later this year.
