There’s something rather beautiful about the jingley-jangly oddball pop of this Brooklyn-based trio.  Fusing the fun of Beck with the windswept eeriness of Bon Iver this isn’t music to shoe gaze to. No no, this is pure aural happiness that floods the room like languid waves of serotonin.  Get a free sample from their myspace page before their album drops in November.

Little Joy

For those with a big ol’ Strokes-shaped hole in your life, you’ll be happy to know that new project of the nicest Stroke of ‘em all, Fab Moretti, comes on like Vampire Weekend, The Beach Boys and the aforementioned ex-kings of New York wonderfully glassy eyed on rum in Trindad during spring break in the ‘60s. Believe it or not, there’s not even a single spray-on jean note of pretense. Four words. Very very good indeed.

Little Joy

Marina & the DiamondsMarina and The Diamonds

Yes yes, there may be a spate of young, independent, electronic, pop-loving femmes in the game right now (cocknbullkid, Little Boots, etc.). However, this reportedly, oft-sozzled missy works her dizzying vocal range over what appear to be overtly autobiographical lyrics in a manner that puts many of her ilk to indie shame. And these are just the demos. Download ‘We’ve Got Obsessions’ from her myspace, gratis, and tell your mates you knew her way back when.

Marina and The Diamonds will be playing The Wonky Pop Halloween Special at Cargo with Little Boots and friends on Fri October 31.

Uj's Loving

UJ’s loving…

To chill:  School Of Seven Bells ‘Half Asleep’ [Ghostly International]. Like sirens singing through synthesizers.

Pre-party: Findlay Brown ‘Promised Land’ {Pilooski Edit} [ThisIsMusic]. A piano-tinged warm and emotive housey re-rub. So good you might weep a little.

To dance: Playdoe ‘It’s That Beat’ [Try Harder]. Electronic hipster-hop from South Africa. Grab your shades! (Check the free mix here)

A little bit of Pop: Esser ‘Work It Out’ [Merok]. A sun drenched ray of optimism.

Music to fall in love to:
High Places ‘Golden’ [Thrill Jockey]. Gorgeous music which sounds like clouds forming.
