Blow Me Up, Scotty

Inflatable things, I believe, are best left to young children and men. Flat tires: man territory. Paddling pools: child territory. Inflation in general: Terror-tory. Unless it’s a lilo floating on the sunny Med, I’ll pass on the whole inflatable shebang – blow-up dolls, bouncy castles, and horror of horrors, novelty hammers.

Or so I thought, until their stint at On|Off (check out Fashion156’s on-location photoshoot) put Inflate on our radar. Now I’m seeing all kinds of possibilities for their cool blow-up architecture.

Screw hot-desking, for example. With their Office in a Bag, this year is all about the hot-office. Requiring a mere ten minutes’ inflation, we’re setting ours up in the middle of the Shoreditch House pool. Cocktail hour, swing by. Or perhaps you’re planning for a bit of festival action this Summer, but are done with roughing it in limp, uncomfortable tents. Sound about right? Well how about a super-protective Turtle, with a private portable changing room on the side?

So sign up for next month’s 2009 Expo to check out the designs for yourself. Because let’s face it, if you’re going to be bouncing off any walls in the current climate, you might as well do it in style.

Inflate Expo

So Apple launched their new store in Covent Garden over the weekend – it’s certainly gorgeous: all original stone archways and lashings of modern steel to match the svelte iGadgets that we covet so. And maybe now the ‘improved’ Genius Bar will actually be able to fit us in when everything goes techno-t*ts-up..

  • i-Cant Take Anymore

Marvellous as it may be, technology has yet to become truly holiday friendly. Sure iPads can tell you the state of the stock markets, but they certainly can’t keep themselves afloat. So for your perfect vacation companion, head down to your newsagents tomorrow and invest in a copy of the inaugural MONOCLE newspaper.

  • UJ Dates

Is it a terrible idea to talk about sex on a first date? How far should a dating agency go to make our romantic dreams come true? And just how long should you wait before you give in and text? Urban Junkies’ token singleton embarks on a quest to test the capital’s top dating agencies and find ‘the one’. Or a ‘one’. Or anyone. Hey, times are tough. But then so is our girl.
