Bump (and Grind) in the Night

With Agent Provocateur posting an 8% rise in sales and Killing Kittens (Emma Sayles’ club for the sexually elite) claiming membership rises in line with City redundancies, it seems Brits are literally riding out the recession.

So where we’re saving on candlelit dinners and big bar tabs, there’s money to spend on smalls. Conceived by ex-model Kenya Cretegny, Apartment C promises to bring a little of the decadence and escapism back into buying lingerie. Taking inspiration from ‘cool girls’ apartments’, the space houses American exclusives like The Lake & Stars and VPL, innovative Dutch label Marlies Dekkers, French lacy loungewear by Elise Aucoutourier, and a staff trained by the De Montfort University of erm, bra fitters presumably. Bet that’s an uplifting course.

Split into two sections, The Library and The Lounge, the store is all black and gold Art Deco styling, vintage chandeliers, and silk cushions. An original Louis XV wardrobe carries Parisian perfumes and Mawi jewellery, whilst guests are encouraged to peruse trashy paperbacks and enjoy tipples in teacups from the 1930s cocktail cabinet.

All we need now is a Prohibition style blackout. Baby boomers beware: things really do go bump in the night.

Apartment C launches 26th March, 70 Marylebone High Street, W1U 5JL.

We’re taught from an early age that the sexes are segregated. Pink and blue baby bumf. Male and female toilets. His ‘n’ hers hotel slippers. And now boutiques are going their separate ways too with single sex dedicated offerings.

  • Life Lite

Living life in lite – or existence.com, the beta version – takes small bits of the good stuff before deciding on the full whack. Like buying the Gucci key-ring instead of the bag. Before you plump for Life 2.0, dip your toe in and install the tester for a tiered existence.

  • Down by the Sea

There's nothing like the promise of a sunshine-filled beach break to get the credit card receipts flowing. After all, nobody goes on holiday without a new bag/pair of flip flops/designer shorts, do they? Even if you're only planning a trip down to the local lido, do it in style with UJ's top picks of the best summery products. Time to get sandy.
