Breakfast of Champions

There's something about how you deal with a weekend hangover that reveals so much. Do you hit the gym to sweat it out? Do you curl beneath the duvet and wish you were dead? Or is it straight to the nearest Bloody Mary?

Personally, nothing comes close to a cracking Sunday morning brunch: hook me up with a plate of eggs florentine at the Breakfast Club in Hoxton, a litre of fresh OJ and maybe a cold glass of rosé, and all is forgiven.

But what if you fancy something a little more luxurious? That oenophilic haven, The East Room, is now inviting even non-members to share in the Sunday breakfasts on its glorious roof terrace – 'papers in one hand, pink bubbly in the other, the sun above and a plate of huevos rancheros in front.

If, however, that seems just a smidge too grown-up, then try Public House’s Breakfast of Champions – a plush streaky smoked bacon sarnie with chili chutney and a glass of chilled Joseph Perrier champagne – before you push on through.

All that's missing now is an excuse. Thankfully it's Friday, so that shouldn't pose too much of a problem…

The East Room serves Sunday brunch from 11am-3pm.

  • Piece of Cake

    Some say it’s better than sex. So it’s apt that London’s latest bakery is appearing in a derelict Soho sex shop, courtesy of fashion favourite Patrick Cox and Cake Boy’s Eric Lanlard. Oh crumbs...

  • Sibling Rivalry

    {mosimage}

    Little sisters steal your make-up. Younger brothers reveal your porn stash. But we’re coming around to the idea of younger siblings - especially when they’re as charming as the latest slew of restaurant sister-sites popping up around Londontown, including Polpo’s newest baby, Polpetto.

  • The Only Way Is Out, Ba-by

    {mosimage}

    London has it’s fair share of outdoor spots. And for sure nothing breaks the daily grind quite like a leisurely lunch in the wild with friends (preferably attractive ones: you’re on show here, remember). But fancy an al fresco nibble and all too often you find yourself with yet another slither of a Pret or a disappointingly greasy local Chinese. And just try getting a table out in the fresh, balmy air without at least 24 hours notice… Oh how those waiters laugh.

  • Lick This

    {mosimage}

    Looking for a way to cool down this summer? Time to stuff the frozen yogurt, take your tongue out of the freezer and wrap it around some of the city’s chicest new gelato joints – and they’re not too calorific either.

  • Feeding Frenzy

    Strawberries with cream, picnics in the park and canapés in the courtyard – a gastro-spread which only points to one thing – summer. But if traditional fare isn’t tickling your taste buds, there’s a new crop of quirky cuisine to tempt you away from the green.
